It was so neat to be able to drive through that beautiful section of land and marvel at the snow, the waterfalls, the rewoods and the HUGE rocks! We also learned an amazing lesson which turns out to be a rather ironic story. When we entered the park we were given a map of it with all the main attractions pin pointed on it. We knew we wanted to see Bridal veil falls and half dome so we headed up the highway headed for them. After driving for awhile we came to a point where the roads seemed to split off and dead end at a series of campgrounds and retreat sites, or circle us around to the exact same place we had been before. Where was half dome!? How come we couldn't find the falls!? My sweet patient husband was content to drive around and try to figure out where we were while I , I must confess, was becomming rather frustrated. Where had I failed in my map reading skills!? It looked like one straight road on the map, how had we managed to get off that road and why couldn't we find it again in order to continue on our way to the falls and half dome! After a bit we stopped at a little general store type place and asked one of the employees for directions to Bridal Veil Falls, having obtained those we headed back out. To our surprise we had passed the falls, not only did we not realize that we had come as far as we had, we also didn’t realize that we were exactly where we had wanted to be! After finding the falls and walking the short path to get a better view we later discovered that all that time we were driving around we needed only to look up into the sky above us and we would have seen a perfect view of Half Dome and even El Capitan not too far from it. We had to chuckle at ourselves, It was right there all along! I was convicted yet again at the frustration that I had given in to earlier.
We spent the Majority of our time in the park in our car as it was quite snowy out and neither of us had the right clothes, but it was so beautiful and so fun to just enjoy the time together.
(Pictures coming soon.)
