Like I mentioned in the earlier Christmas Traditions post, my family had very few traditions that we stuck to every year. Dad, however, has one that he has faithfully continued for as long as I can remember. The art of making English Toffee. Each year as Christmas day was closing in on us, one evening Dad would announce "I better make some candy!". Out would come the nuts and the chocolate chips, the butter and brown sugar, and Dad would go to work. Chopping, mixing, stirring, concentrating...lots of concentrating for if the candy got to hot it would burn, but if it didn't get to just the right temperature, it wouldn't reach the hard crack point. Those candy making evenings are fond memories for me, I remember having a royal blast helping dad make that sweet treat. Dad always made enough to share with friends and family and I remember always having fun telling people that "my daddy made that!".
This year, for the first time in my life I attempted to follow in my Daddy's footsteps and continue his candy making tradition. I have to admit I was worried that the whole thing would be a great big flop, but it turned out pretty good. Maybe with almost 30 years of practice I'll someday be as good at it as my Dad!

I didn't remember to take a picture until it was almost gone but here's some slightly blurry pictures for you :D.

Okay so I remember so vividly as a kid getting to taste English Toffee for the first time because of some of your extras at school when we were little and guess what? English Toffee is now my most favorite candy! (This is Heather (Hays) by the way)
That's funny that your dad always made candy. My dad did that every Christmas too. He made fudge and peanut brittle. I guess making candy can be manly :).
