A Birthday Blog: My Bro Daniel

On this fabulous day in January, 19 years ago, my brother Daniel was born. I was reminiscing to Brian the other day some funny memories of Daniel as a little guy. There's so many, I could type all day, but one sticks out in my memory as particularly funny. Daniel liked to brag that no matter how you tied him, he could find a way to get loose. Several different times (at his insistence of course) I would tie Daniel up and then take great delight in watching him try to wiggle free, the wiggling escalated one time when it was announced that lunch was ready and he was still no closer to freeing himself. Oh! How I laughed!

I did not get to see my brother or talk to him this year on his birthday as he is very far away. Daniel is a Calvary Scout with the Army and is currently serving 18 months in Iraq. I'm so proud of my little brother! He strives to do his best at all that he does and it shows in how he has excelled in his current situation. He is the youngest in his unit and was the first to recieve a C.A.B. Medal! Which basically acknowledges the fact that he has been dangerously close to the enemy.(the link has more info)

It's easy to worry about my brother over there in Iraq. It's a dangerous place to be right now, but we know that the Lord is watching out for him! A few days before Christmas the truck Daniel was in drove over an I.E.D. trip line on the road. Typically this would blow a truck like theirs up, but due to the way it had been setup and a hard object in between them and the initial explosion, they were only knocked off the road. No one in the vehicle was injured. Praise the Lord!!

We would greatly appreciate any prayers for Daniel, he's not saved at this time but we're praying that the Lord is working on his heart. His first words to my Dad when he talked to him on Christmas day was "I think God is answering all your prayers for me."

Happy Birthday Daniel!! I love you and miss you so much!!

This picture was taken this past summer, shortly before Daniel shipped out. My Mom and little sister were unable to be in the picture but this is the rest of our family. Daniel is front and center.

This is a picture that Daniel text messaged me while he was still training.

I know how it is to have a brother over there in Iraq fighting to protect our freedom. Mine (who is also named Daniel) was there twice. Right now he's in the Reserves and thankfully at home in Northern California, but I will pray for your brother. It's hard knowing they're in such a dangerous place!

That's so scary! We'll definitely be praying for him! It doesn't really seem like Daniel is old enough to be in the army. It seems like just yesterday that he was about 10. They've all grown up so quickly!!!
