Day 21- Today i decided to be thankful for a messy house. I don't like messes. I prefer them not be in existence, but that is simply not possible. I've realized recently though that i think part of what provokes my dislike of messes is pride. I want to be viewed a certain way and a messy house will not promote that. But, thats a wrong focus and i need to be humbled so i'm thankful for that. I'm also thankful for messes because of what they mean. Toys and books strewn all over the living room mean i have happy, healthy little children playing in it. Dirty dishes, pots and pans in my kitchen mean that i have a well fed family. Sometimes that unfolded laundry has to sit there a little longer in exchange for a little time spent on the floor with a little two year old boy and a mini football or snuggled on the couch with a book and a four (soon to be 16) year old little girl. I'm thankful to choose the better thing!
Day 22- I'm thankful for a day set aside to focus on being thankful. I'm thankful that we have a day to annually remember all that the Pilgrims went through to make a fresh start in this country. I realized as i was reading to Chloe about the first thanksgiving... The idea of endless empty land, of no stores, of having to hunt and plant and harvest all your food, of starving, of freezing, of watching family members get sick and even die, is beyond her comprehension. In a lot of ways its beyond mine... I'm thankful for that. I'm thankful that we could spend this day relaxing with family!
Day 23- Today is black friday. The day that so much money is spent on stuff, businesses go from the red to the black. The day that full grown adults act like two year olds, wrestling and fighting for that "toy". I am so thankful that for me, there is more to this life than getting the newest iphone or that hugemongous flatscreen tv at a great price. I'm so thankful that in Christ "who is [my] life" (as Col 3 says) i have all i need. And on top of that, i have Brian, Chloe, Colton and Drew Casebolt!! What more could i want! ... Ummm maybe just some slippers to warm my cold toes...:D
